Bedtime Stories
Remember as a young child how, if we were lucky, our parents read us a bedtime story to help us fall asleep?
Here's an interesting read on how the brain, whether a child or adult, can use stories or other soothing inputs to help quiet and relax.
I have not tried this technique, but can attest to the use of white/brown/purple/pink noise to get my mind to stop the chatter.
