Travel and Sleep

Recently I've had the opportunity to travel for business, driving and staying in hotels or at a family member's home.  Getting good rest while on the road presents it's own challenges.

Over the years I've tried many different solutions to help me get better rest on the road.  It's not easy!

There are a variety of tools that, while used at home, can also be used while travelling.  I've found that an eye mask to block out light, foam ear plugs for sound, and a small PillowEase™ help me get the best rest possible.  While this helps me, some combination, such as including white noise if foam ear plugs are uncomfortable, unfortunately there is no perfect solution, and travel rest will always be less than perfect.

The other 2 things I would include here are the importance of exercise and a good meal plan.  Again, very difficult while on the road, but worth the effort, even if it's just taking a couple of laps around the hotel parking lot after being cooped up in a plane or in a car all day.

As the world opens back up and we find ourselves "getting back to normal", a new normal for sure, remember to take care of yourself.  We know self care is important, and more so now than ever.  Give yourself permission to take that break, to give yourself a break.  Take care of yourself, especially if you are responsible for the care of others.  The saying you have to love yourself before you can love others is true, and it is also true that you must take care of yourself before you can take care of others.  It's the airplane oxygen mask instruction you get when you fly.  Put yours on first!
